Prof. Shoemaker named Cullen-Peck Fellow

CRA professor and director Deirdre Shoemaker has been named 2015 Georgia Tech College of Sciences Cullen-Peck Fellow in recognition of her research on the astrophysics of black holes using Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. Deirdre's predictions regarding the characteristics of gravitational waves emitted when black holes collide are expected to be tested, within two or three years, with data from the Laser Interferometric Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO). Consistency between theory and observations would provide strong evidence in favor of Einstein's theory of gravity, and would usher in the age of gravitational wave astronomy.

Congratulations!
